A poem (Ghazal) by James Daniel

Sometimes the clouds move away
And what started as gloom becomes the day,
Now we see just the light.
No dimly lit corners or dark shadows the origins of which nobody knows,
Now we see just the light.

Voices heard speaking sweet refrains,
Laughing, oblivious but here come the rains.
Silence begins and continues until again
Now we see just the light.

Hiding the joy is not meant to be the game,
Letting love burst forth is why we came.
Opening our eyes ever so slowly,
Now we see just the light.

Being so young we forget one day we will slow our pace,
When life moving steadfastly forward will show its face.
The mask it was wearing peels back and
Now we see just the light.

Time moves on slowly in a funny kind of way,
There’s not much you can do and not much you can say.
I look around me trying to find what’s left and all I can say is
Now I see just the light.
